No, we?ve been over that. So why such a low number of women among National Academy members*? Perhaps it?s reflective of fewer women in science and engineering overall?

* According to the Association for Women in Science, the 2000 spike in the first graph was a response to outcries about the low proportion of women being elected to NAS. However, instead of increasing the proportion of women, they increased the total elected # from 60 to 72. As you can see it has recently declined back to post-2000 numbers.
