NASA preps J-2X rocket engines for second round testing, SLS creeps closer to 2017 liftoff
Forty-year old tech taking astronauts into space? Sadly, that's been the current state of our space program. But in the spirit of making one extra, giant leap for mankind, our nation's best and brightest aeronautic minds have been quietly working on a propulsion system designed to power the SLS and its Orion spacecraft payload deeper into the cosmos. NASA's been testing these next-gen J-2X rockets since last year, proving their ability to "[achieve] full flight-duration firing of 500 seconds" at sea-level and, now, in a series of second round testing, the engines will be put through their paces at high altitudes. The first of 16 planned tests are scheduled to kick off this Wednesday at the agency's Stennis Center in Mississippi and should run through to year-end. Check out the official presser after the break for a fuller breakdown of this evolution in galactic travel.

Congress to examine government's dominance in wireless spectrum
The US federal government is, by far and away, the largest user of wireless spectrum in the States -- much of which is spoken for by the Department of Defense. A new Congressional committee will, however, be re-examining that position with the goal of freeing up airwaves for public and commercial use. Brett Guthrie (R-KY), who will co-chair the group, hopes the effort will ultimately end up saving taxpayers money and satiating the country's "exploding demand for mobile broadband services." Of course this isn't the first time the idea has been broached, but the bi-partisan collective suggests that an actionable plan to ease the spectrum squeeze might not be too far off. Let's all hope that the findings don't become quite as contentious as some of the other issues currently being debated in Congress's hallowed halls.

With the summer movie season right around the corner, our excitement for multiple trips to the theater is building with each passing day. And with the blockbuster season comes another equally thrilling cinematic event: the 2012 MTV Movie Awards on June 3!
In addition to Tuesday's (April 25) announcement of the 12 nomination categories — including new additions Best Music, Best On-Screen Transformation, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance, Best Cast and Best On-Screen Dirt Bag — we are thrilled to announce that chart-topping indie-pop group fun. will rock the Movie Awards stage with a performance toasting the greatest party films of all time. "We are Young," from their latest album, Some Nights, has been holding strong at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the past six weeks.
"The Movie Awards are all about celebrating the most popular films and performances from the past year that people actually went to see," said Stephen Friedman, president of MTV. "Moreover, we're thrilled to have Fun., whose instant anthem 'We Are Young' has lived at the top of the charts the past six weeks, and their performance showcases one of the biggest changes in this year's broadcast — a true melding of the worlds of movies and music — with a tribute to the greatest party films of all time."
Once again, MTV fans will hold the "Power of the Popcorn" in their hands. This year's brand-new Best Music category will allow fans to vote for a specific movie moment when the perfect song played during the perfect scene.
The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET/PT from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, California.
