HARTFORD, CT (WCBS 880) -?By the time it hit Connecticut, Irene was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm.
WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau On The Story
But many Connecticut residents?find themselves having to pay huge deductibles on their insurance claims.
State Representative Robert Megna, who heads the legislative insurance committee, says the primary concern of his committee is straightening out this matter in fairness to Connecticut residents.
?It?s important, I think, that the market only entertain large windstorm deductibles?with hurricanes. That?s what most states do and that?s what we want to do here in Connecticut,? he told WCBS?880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau.
Megna?points out carriers in many states including New York and New Jersey do not permit?massive windstorm deductibles?for anything less than a hurricane and he says that needs to be the policy for homeowners in Connecticut.
?I would like to assure that in the future that homeowners are only subject to windstorm deductibles?when it?s a named hurricane ? nothing less,? he said.
