We are seeking a Trade Strategist to join a progressive team that delivers client-focused business solutions resulting in strong, sustainable economic growth and prosperity for the Province of Nova Scotia.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Strategy and Intelligence (CSI), the Trade Strategist will manage NSBI?s Trade Market Intelligence (TMI) service. The TMI service provides companies in Nova Scotia with intelligence regarding international commerce pursuits.
The Trade Strategist will be the key contact liaising with NSBI?s Trade Development business unit fulfilling intelligence requests as well as conducting background research required to support NSBI trade missions. The Trade Strategist will also support and lead research and intelligence requests related to Emerging Markets and the Heavy Industrial sector, and will be responsible for handling various intelligence requests received by CSI including, but not limited to, economic indicator data research and analysis.
As a Trade Strategist, you will be expected to:
Serve as the first point of contact for TMI requests and work with the client to confirm and refine the research request;
Establish the TMI report deadline and communicate the delivery date to the client;
Assign TMI requests to other members of the CSI team as appropriate, and track the progress through to report completion;
Ensure that TMI requests are completed on time, are of high quality, and meet the needs of the client;
Manage the databases utilized to fulfill TMI requests including the budget allocated for the database subscriptions and the yearly renewals;
Complete an annual TMI report including an analysis of existing database subscriptions and recommendations for future use;
Work with the NSBI Marketing and Trade teams to promote and expand TMI; and
Manage CSI?s co-operative work term education program by leading the hiring, mentoring, and workloads of six university co-op students throughout each year.
Our Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone with:
A post-secondary education in business, commerce, or a related discipline with a focus on international trade; a Master?s degree would be preferred;
Three years of direct trade research experience (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered);
Solid analytical and problem solving skills to expediently gather and analyze trade and economic data to make well-informed recommendations;
Strong mentorship skills to lead CSI?s critical co-operative work term education program; and
A high degree of professionalism, sound judgment, and initiative.
