? * Reports to the Assistant General Counsel ? Real Estate * Located in Columbus, Ohio * Provides legal advice to clients on matters of intermediate complexity * Applies legal knowledge to business issues, while developing subject matter expertise and knowledge of the company/industry * Will typically work independently or with outside counsel, but will also work in conjunction with more senior attorneys on more complex matters Key Responsibilities: * Resolves legal issues and provides proactive legal advice and counsel * Drafts legal documents * Researches and summarizes laws and cases * Works with outside counsel on select matters * Communicates with clients regarding status updates Practice Area Specific Responsibilities: * Negotiate Right of Way acquisitions and dispositions and resolutions of encroachments * Negotiate and manage outside counsel in connection with purchases and sales of real estate * Resolve potential encroachment matters * Provide advice to Land Department regarding legal interpretation of real estate instruments in connection with the Company?s rights and obligations, including encroachment matters * Provide support in connection with real property matters associated with construction of gas facilities * Provide real estate law support in connection with business unit acquisitions and dispositions * Negotiate and provide counsel in connection with office leases, ground leases and other real estate rights associated with the Company?s facilities ? Qualifications * JD from an accredited law school and a license to practice law in Ohio. * 2 ? 5 years real estate law experience with a reputable law firm or in-house legal department of a midsized or large corporation * Experience in the energy industry is a plus * Ability to balance the legal issues of a project with the goals of the business through the demonstration of strong, pragmatic business acumen and the ability to recognize the business consequences of legal advice * Strong, logical legal mind with the ability to apply abstract concepts of law to make timely, well-reasoned and appropriate decisions to solve problems. * Strong advocacy skills * Ability to function autonomously, yet understands necessity of advising management of work progress and any unusual situations * Skilled at managing multiple tasks simultaneously and effectively. * Ability to work independently and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines in a fast-paced environment * Ability to work with cross-functional teams * Adaptable to changing environments * Exercise of sound judgment * Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to engender trust, respect and confidence * Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization * Exemplary personal and professional integrity and business ethics * Commitment to diversity and a respect for others Additional Information: * Overtime and some travel are required ? ?
